Totally had a trauma response for the first time in a while. It happens. I found myself crying (not ugly cry. Just tearing up) for what I thought was no reason and got a familiar knot in my chest but didn’t understand why it was happening.
If you react to something out of proportion to what is currently going on, you may be reacting to something in the past. Sometimes this happens almost subconsciously. You might feel like you’re in real danger. It can take time to work through a visceral fear response to get yourself reoriented to the present.
It takes a lot of time and a lot of patience. And can still happen years later. Be kind to yourself.
