Swells take you

as you are

and leave you changed.

One of our snorkeling guides hung out with us after our excursion at a pretty remote beach to show us her favorite shelling spot where she free dives for shells. She said something to the effect of: “don’t worry if the swell takes you out, it’ll push you back in.”

Ocean swimming in Hawaii has certainly been different, maybe more challenging in some ways, but once you get used to it, it’s absolutely addictive. I have nothing but respect for the power of the ocean. Feeling what were some relatively small waves… was immensely powerful.
