Through the Storm

I sat out on the front porch today to do some work as a storm raged. Water was streaming off the roof just a few feet away. It was in the afternoon and really dark. Kind of matches my mood today. I’m not ready for the semester to start. I’m holding on as best I can to some of the zen that Hawaii afforded me, but it’s hard to access it at times when that beauty isn’t right before me. I do try to acknowledge the beauty in Pennsylvania. I can most of the time, but when I’m feeling low it’s harder.

While I do think I made some healthy changes for myself lately, it doesn’t mean that all of them have been easy. It seems like loyal friends are in short supply. Here are some things to keep in mind if you’re feeling low:

  • It’s okay if your circle is small. Make sure the people in it are worthy of YOU
  • YOU are a prize.
  • Though not everyone in the world is out to get you and hurt you, the reality is that some people ARE. Or are just too oblivious in their actions to NOT hurt you. Trust your gut and release these folks.
  • Tomorrow is a new day. There are pretty much limitless opportunities for connections and friendships in this world. So if some don’t work out, there are bound to be more.
