It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it.
Albus Dumbledore
I finished the 7th book today. I have my thoughts about how things ended… did feel a bit rushed in some ways, and I was wanting more, but. It is what it is.
This quote stood out to me… the people who I meet and can tell that they seek power, I tend to distance myself from. Not only is it unbecoming, but I often think such people dangerous. Seeking power for power’s sake is more akin to greed in my mind than anything else. But it’s usually the quiet kind-hearted folks who have much to offer in leadership positions.
Then there are the 2nd-level power-seekers who are psychopaths/sociopaths who are playing the game and curating an innocent persona! Scary.
But yeah, especially if you’ve watched Forensic Files you know that this natural cynicism is right on the money!! I’ve always felt it, and feel more validated to explain such feelings these days.
It’s as though I can smell the self-interest on people lol. They perspire too much when talking about themselves π . Kudos to JK Rowling for suggesting such ideas in family-friendly fiction! Some good ideas for children to think about.

Funny thing, I always had this feeling around certain teachers or people in the community like religious people who seemed to put a lot of effort into appearing ‘proper’ and saying the right things. It always turned me off. I could never see the logical connection between being religious and being a prominent person in the community based on that alone. I was picking up on the cynicism in contorting yourself to fit society’s ‘virtuous’ ideas, especially if it somehow benefits yourself.
It’s just that such positions are ripe for exploitation. And surprise surpriseβ¦

(And this is why people who swear or have tattoos or other such ‘rebellious’ things are endearing! Less reason for suspecting dishonesty). Anyway I could go on all day on this topic lol, sorry.
